A diabetic patient is referred to me for an evaluation by her PCP. The patient has no complaints other than that. Is this a billing service under Medicare if they have no complaints?

This question was about Medicare. Interestingly enough, becoming 65 this year what comes in the mail? The Medicare lay person 1" thick manual explaining all the services Medicare provides. In this manual, Page 42, Foot care - Medicare covers yearly foot exams or treatment if you have diabetes-related lower leg nerve damage that can increase the risk of limb loss, or if you need medically necessary treatment for foot injuries or diseases, like hammer toe, bunion deformities, and heel spurs. COMMENT: The first part is a LOPS as related by Dr. Kesselman's comments and hyperlink reference and you can see here Medicare patients assume they get a "yearly foot exam" this is a concern how it is written. In my opinion the first sentence should be reformatted to say "If you have diabetes-related lower leg nerve damage that can increase the risk of limb loss, Medicare covers yearly foot exams or treatment. Medicare covers medically necessary at-risk care. If you need medically necessary treatment for foot symptoms, injuries or diseases, like hammer toe, bunion deformities, and heel spurs, Medicare covers these services as just some examples. "
